Ireland offers a variety of grants and supports aimed at promoting sustainability and reducing carbon emissions for both businesses and individuals. Here are some notable programs;
- Energy Audit: Find out if your business is eligible for a €2,000 voucher towards the cost of a professional energy audit. An energy audit is an important step for businesses that want to save money, save energy, and enhance their brand. An energy audit may be carried out on buildings, processes, or systems and it is a three-step process which involves preparation, a site visit and reporting.
- Solar PV Scheme: Administered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), this scheme provides grants up to €162,600 The grant amount you receive is based on the standard output of your solar PV system. A solar PV system with an output of a maximum 1000kWp can be grant funded through the scheme.
- Solar Thermal Scheme: Solar thermal technology captures energy from the sun and in turn uses it to heat water. It is typically sized to meet 60% of the total hot water load of a building. It can be used to service any system where thermal energy is a requirement. This grant provides up to 30% of the overall costs of a new solar thermal installation. Grants of up to €15,000 are available.
- Building Fabric Upgrades: How well your building retains heat directly impacts your fuel costs. The SEAI offer a grant of up to 30% for a range of wall and roof fabric upgrades.Grants of up to €120,000 are available. The exact grant value will be based on your existing fabric type, overall area of fabric works and your choice of fabric upgrade. Grants cover roof and wall upgrades only.
- Heat Pumps:Heat pumps are a clean alternative to fossil fuels for your heating needs. SEAI offer up to 30% towards cost of a heat pump retrofit for your business. Grants of up to €100,000 are available. The exact grant value is based on your building type, size and the technical selections you make.
- Pumps: As an essential element of systems in a building, pumps can significantly impact the running costs of building. Get a grant of up to 30% towards pump upgrades.Grants up to €10,000 are available. The exact grant value is based on your building type, size and the technical selections you make.
- Air Handling Unit: Air handling units supply and extract air from a building. They're used in mechanically ventilated buildings (as opposed to buildings with openable windows). In older buildings, these units don't recover heat. Instead it's exhausted to the atmosphere. New air handling units or retrofit options reclaim this waste heat in the extract, which in turn is used to heat incoming fresh air. The fan technology in these units can also lower electrical running costs.
Grants of up to €25,000 are available. The exact grant value is based on your building type, building size and the technical selections you make in your application.
- Electric Vehicles: SEAI provides grant supports towards the purchase of N1 category battery electric vehicles (BEV) for business, public entities and private individuals. There are 2 grants available for N1 category vehicles depending on their size. A maximum grant of €3,800 is available for qualifying BEV N1S and €7,600 for an N1L category. Approved EVs with a list price of less than €14,000 will not receive a grant.
GreenStart and GreenPlus Grants: These grants support companies in implementing environmental best practices. GreenStart offers up to €5,000 for hiring an external environmental expert, while GreenPlus provides up to €50,000, covering half of project costs up to €100,000, for more extensive sustainability projects.
- Electric Vehicle Grants: The SEAI offers grants of up to €3,500 for the purchase of new electric vehicles (EVs). These grants are available for new privately-owned battery electric vehicles priced between €14,000 and €60,000. The grant amounts vary based on the price of the vehicle, with the maximum grant of €3,500 for cars costing between €18,001 and €60,000.
- Charging Grants: The Electric Vehicle Home Charger Grant is a government funded support scheme assisting residents and homeowners to install an electric vehicle charge point on their property. The scheme provides a grant up to the value of €300 towards the purchase and installation of a home charger unit.
- The apartment charger grant assists residents and owners of apartments and other multi-unit developments who want to install a home charger for their Electric Vehicle (EV) and which are not covered by the pre-existing grants. The grant is designed for bulk installation of chargers at a single location, and supports cabling, infrastructure, labour, and construction costs. Owners' management companies, housing bodies, local authorities, commercial and private landlords can apply.
